We got our RF transmitter and receiver shipped to us. The devices were tested using the VirtualWire Arduino library. These will be used to implement Area Effect Weapons (grenades and such). We'll be testing out what the actual range of these are (the spec sheet says 500ft.) and how we will vary the range (since different weapons will have different ranges). After that, we'll establish the AoEW codes that will be sent with these.
The VirtualWire Arduino library does not work with the IR transmitters/receivers. We used the IRremote library to to test out our IR devices. The IRremote library sends data by using a timer to set a pin high or low for certain frequencies. This allows us to set up a wireless serial line between the IR transmitter and receiver. In the picture at the left, you can see the receiver (by the red light) and the transmitter (on the small board at the right).
